As parents we want to make sure our daughters have the same opportunities as the rest of the children. We want them to be allowed to speak for themselves. We want their voices to be heard and their opinions taken into account. We cannot just cross our arms and wait for the world to mend itself. True that "important" people in the high hierarchies need to make changes, but the real changes start from within, in our own families, in our children's playgroups, in the school they attend. As parents, as educators, we can make a difference.
Quoting Emma Watson in her inspiring discourse: "If not you, who? If not now, when?"
Below you can see her discourse at the UN headquarters in New York last september. It's a really inspiring piece. Using her own words I have added some questions and reflection points so you can also use it as a teaching device with your children and/or students.
It is us who have to start the change if we really want it to happen!
